We invite parishioners to participate in our ministries. Training is provided to our ministers. For more information, please contact the rectory.
Eucharistic Ministers
are called upon to distribute the Body (and, on occasion, the Blood) of Christ to the faithful. Although they are active mostly during Mass, they may also distribute Holy Communion to those who cannot come to church, such as parishioners in hospitals, nursing homes and shut-ins. The schedule of eucharistic ministers is circulated in advance each month.
Altar Servers
represent the worshipping assembly during the sacrifice of the Mass by assisting the priest in his duties at the altar. Men and women as young as 12 years old and up to any age may become altar servers. The schedule of altar servers on Sundays and special Holy Days is circulated in advance each month.
Lectors
represent the faithful during the liturgy of the Word by proclaiming the day’s Scriptural readings before the Gospel and by reading the Prayer of the Petitions. The schedule of Lectors on Sundays and special Holy Days is circulated in advance each month.
Ushers
are often the first point of contact between the worshipping faithful and the Church. They assist the assembly by seating parishioners, collecting the offertory, and distributing materials appropriate to the liturgy.
Choir Singers
of the Church of St. John the Martyr accompany the 12:30pm Mass on Sundays and on special Holy Days. Rehearsals, held from 12:00am to 12:30pm before Sunday Mass, are led by the church organist. All are invited to join our choir. More important than a good voice is the desire to live up to St. Augustine’s wisdom that “he who sings prays twice.”
The Helping Hands Committee
provides an overview of and contact information for some of the senior centers and other organizations in our area that offer various social services and targeted programs addressing a variety of needs.
